Cowleaze Farm is situated on flat, well-watered clay lands near Shrivenham. For generations it was part of the local Beckett Estate and was farmed by tenants until the Estate, manor house and extensive farm holdings were sold between 1917 and 1929.
Leonard Knapp and his wife owned and farmed Cowleaze from the mid-1920s until 1947. At this time the farm consisted of the house, a comprehensive and interesting range of farm buildings and a pair of semi-detached workers’ cottages. In the 1960s the house and some of the outbuildings were bought as a private dwelling.
In the early 1950s Pendon researched Cowleaze Farm prior to constructing the model of the farm, cottages and their environment.
