Prior to 1841 this building in South Marston, Wiltshire, was a beer house, being bought by Arkell's Brewery of Kingsdown in 1881. A full 'On Licence' was granted in 1959 and the building extended and modernised in 1980; it is still successfully trading today. It lies close to the original main line between London and Bristol, and the now defunct Wilts and Berks Canal.
The building was first recorded for Pendon in 1973 and early photographs were loaned by the then landlord. The model was made in 1994-95 and is set between Marsh Lane Crossing on the railway line and Wharf Cottage close to the out-of-use Wilts and Berks Canal.
