Kingstone Winslow is situated on the spring line at the base of the escarpment of chalk down lands which stretch away to the south There is a string of such villages and the reliable availability of water led to water mills being built in several of them. 

Upper Mill comprised of the mill itself, the miller’s house and outbuildings which included a barn and was active until the late 1940s. By the 1950s it was a dwelling house and in November 1952 was designated a Grade II listed building,
