70th Birthday Celebrations

A special running weekend 13th & 14th July 2024 and exhibition at Pendon

This July marks our 70 year anniversary celebrated with a special exhibition and running weekend charting the progression of transport from 1930 to the present day.

As part of the celebrations during the weekend of 13th & 14th July, we will run a number of special trains on the Sea Wall scene under the banner of “GWR Then and Now” – an event not to be missed!

The trains scheduled to run that weekend are:
- GW King Henry VIII on the Cornish Riviera Express
- Former GW Castle 'Swordfish' on an up Express 1950s sadly not running and replaced with a Ex GWR 4-6-0 Grange Class 'Bucklebury Grange' 6803 Steam Locomotive
- Western Class Diesel 1960s
- HST in original livery as introduced in 1976
- Motor-Rail train 1990s
- Class 158 on a local service in First GW Livery

Please note that these trains are all historical models kindly lent to Pendon Museum for the purposes of this special event, and as such might succumb to engineering faults on the day!

The wider exhibition (excluding the above running sequence) will be on display from early July until later in the year in various locations around the museum. On display will be a number of photographs from our archive as well as a small selection of historical vehicle models kindly lent to the museum for the purposes of the exhibition.

Pendon Museum would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who helped to contribute to the exhibition and special running weekend.
