John Ahern’s layout is preserved as a tribute to the modeller’s art.
This pioneering model railway is on permanent display. Built entirely by one man, it dates from the 1930s, and is a relic of the early days of scenic railway modelling. It pioneered the idea of scenic craftsmanship, and until then no one had set a model railway in a fully developed landscape. It showed what could be done, and has provided many modellers with a template for their own layouts.
